Natalie, Secretary
Q: What is your favorite thing to sew?
A: I really enjoy making garments that fit into my existing wardrobe. I'm also an outfit and pattern repeater. Once I find a design I like and perfect the fit, I usually make more than one in different fabrics. Finally, I enjoy learning new-to-me sewing techniques and trying new types of projects. I'm learning plaid matching and hope to get my first wool jacket sewn up for next winter.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Central Iowa ASG?
A: I joined the guild to meet new people when I moved to Iowa in 2020. I've stayed a member because I really enjoy talking with creative people about a shared interest, and there's always something new to learn. It was a lot of fun collaborating with others in my previous role as program coordinator, and I look forward to staying involved now as secretary.
Q: What are your goals for your secretary position in 2025?
A: In addition to documenting the lively CAB meeting conversations in the official minutes each month, I hope to continue participating with brainstorming ideas and offering my occasional two cents.
Q: What projects are in your sewing studio right now?
A: I have several projects started: a pair of pull-on linen pants, self-drafted pattern; a striped rib-knit turtleneck for the 2025 guild challenge; one more Remy Raglan woven summer top; a navy blue Seamwork Hansie woven top; and the cut and interfaced pieces for a work tote bag. I'm also halfway finished with inkle-weaving a strap for a new lanyard for my work keycard.

Rosanne, Treasurer
Q: What is your favorite thing to sew?
A: Clothes that fit, whether for myself or others. Next comes functional sewing including mending, alterations and things like drapes or the cover for our pergola. Sometimes I like to sew the tried and true pattern, but usually want to try something new, especially learning new techniques. There's not much I haven't attempted except leather shoes. I've learned a lot from my sewing mistakes so I just keep trying when it takes multiple attempts to get what I want.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Central Iowa ASG?
A: The friendships, learning sewing and fitting techniques from others and being able to help a less experienced sewist build confidence in sewing skills.
Q: What are your goals for the Treasurer position in 2025?
A: Keep accurate records and timely reporting of information to local CAB, and National ASG. Work with the CAB to facilitate opportunities for members to grow their sewing abilities.
Q: What projects are in your sewing studio right now?
A: Sewing for myself for a while, especially after the many sewing gifts made for family members for the holidays and birthdays. My 2024 goal was to fit patterns for a button-up shirt and t-shirt with princess seams. I succeeded on the t-shirt and am still working on the button-up shirt in 2025. I plan to minimize fabric purchases and use up some of my stash continuing the 2023 theme of sustainable sewing. I'm learning to say no to some requests for mending or alterations for others and to be honest with myself that I will never use some fabrics or finish projects in my stash. In a recent conversation, I realized that someone else wanted one of my unfinished quilt projects and it brings me joy to give it away; I no longer feel guilty for not finishing something that I started but don't really want anyway.
