Meet the Chapter Advisory Board (CAB)
2026 Elected Officers

See the CAB members photos.
Get to know fellow guild members. Meet Nancy, Natalie and Rosanne the 2025 elected officers. Do you have ideas, questions or suggestions for Chapter programs or activities? Share your ideas with Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) members.

Denise, President

Q: What's your favorite thing to sew?
A:  Coordinated mini collections or capsule wardrobes.

Q:  What do you enjoy most about Central IA ASG?
A:  Learning: new skills, new friends, new ideas, new projects.

Q:  What are your goals for president?
A:  To facilitate opportunities in a way that allows members to explore and express their creativity. I see my job as making sure the chapter advisory board can do their jobs well.

Q:  What projects are you working on now?
A:  I'm in a bit of a slump post-holidays, but there's silk for pajamas, lycra for a workout top and canvas for an apron waiting for me to get myself together and cut out some patterns.

Natalie, Secretary

I joined the guild to meet new people when I moved to Iowa in 2020. I've stayed a member because I really enjoy talking with creative people about a shared interest, and there's always something new to learn! This will be my second year serving as guild secretary. The official job is documenting the lively CAB meetings, but I also enjoy brainstorming ideas and contributing my occasional two cents.

I really enjoy making garments that fit into my existing wardrobe. Once I find a design I like and perfect the fit, I usually make more than one in different fabrics. Here is a photo of me this past summer in my Merchant and Mills free bucket hat pattern in repurposed denim, a navy blue Seamwork Hansie top, and self-drafted striped linen pants out of redistribution sale fabric:

Q:  What is your favorite thing to sew?
A:  Clothes that fit, whether for myself or others. Next comes functional sewing including mending, alterations and things like drapes or the cover for our pergola. Sometimes I like to sew the tried and true pattern, but usually want to try something new, especially learning new techniques. There's not much I haven't attempted except leather shoes. I've learned a lot from my sewing mistakes so I just keep trying when it takes multiple attempts to get what I want.

Q:  What do you enjoy most about Central Iowa ASG?
A:  The friendships, learning sewing and fitting techniques from others and being able to help a less experienced sewist build confidence in sewing skills.

Q:  What are your goals for the Treasurer position in 2025?
A:  Keep accurate records and timely reporting of information to local CAB, and National ASG. Work with the CAB to facilitate opportunities for members to grow their sewing abilities.

Q:  What projects are in your sewing studio right now?
A:  Sewing for myself for a while, especially after the many sewing gifts made for family members for the holidays and birthdays. My 2024 goal was to fit patterns for a button-up shirt and t-shirt with princess seams. I succeeded on the t-shirt and am still working on the button-up shirt in 2025.  I plan to minimize fabric purchases and use up some of my stash continuing the 2023 theme of sustainable sewing. I'm learning to say no to some requests for mending or alterations for others and to be honest with myself that I will never use some fabrics or finish projects in my stash.  In a recent conversation, I realized that someone else wanted one of my unfinished quilt projects and it brings me joy to give it away; I no longer feel guilty for not finishing something that I started but don't really want anyway.
